RMS Education

Other web sites

This page contains some links to web sites that aren't all "educational", but for one reason or another have been of value, assistance or interest to me.  Have fun checking them out!  I've also included my CV as presented on my own home page.
Please note that clicking each web link will open another browser.  When you have finished looking at each site, please close the browser by clicking the "X" at top right of screen.

Technology in Education — Highly informative, easy-to-understand descriptions, explanations, advice and tips for setting up and using computer technology in schools (and anywhere else).  Looks at many aspects, including wireless networking, broadband, digital video and cameras, data projectors, monitors, how to burn CD-ROMs, copyright issues, web search techniques and much more. This site is regularly updated.

ScreenSound — Australia's rich heritage of classic silent and early sound-era cinema, and radio from the pre-television days.

The Phantom comic book in Australia — a great "phan" site, and a labour of love, looking at over 50 years of continuous publishing by the Frew company of The Ghost Who Walks.

Echo Education Resources — Subscriber site mainly aimed at secondary schools, providing indexing from Australian newspapers of daily news and weekly book, film and visual arts reviews, plus News Issues-based resources.

Collection of poetry about Australian bushrangers — another labour of love (note:  contains pop-ups);  I discovered this site while looking for information on Jimmy Governor and his fictional counterpart, Jimmie Blacksmith.

Film Australia — offers free, downloadable study guides of Australian documentary programs (including some written by myself).

First newspaper report of the Wright Brothers' aeroplane flight — fascinating for its inaccuracy, as the journalist who wrote it was not at Kitty Hawk on that historic day in December 1903!  When the first page appears, choose the desired internet speed connection.   This takes you to an interactive page — when it loads, click on the newspaper columns to enlarge and read.

State Library of Victoria — first stop for researching the Electric Chronicle.

Film Buffs' Forecast — another site about movies, connected to the long-running 3RRR radio program of the same name.  Highly informative.

Australian Old Time Radio — "Back to those glory days when radio ruled the airwaves";  radio drama, comedy, kids' serials, quiz shows, adverts etc.  Great Australian popular culture! (When home page opens, hold mouse over the black menu bar to access the contents.)

"Amateur" radio serials from the USA — Downloadable radio serial versions of Superman and Star Trek, with James Bond and Indiana Jones in the planning stages.   Not-for-profit recordings.  I've included this site because some of my study guides for Film Australia suggest classroom exercises on writing and producing radio drama.

Australian Children's Television Foundation — not-for-profit organisation, developing and producing entertaining programs for children and young teenagers;  extensive web links.

The Serial Squadron — old movie serials (mainly American). Everything you wanted to know about "cliffhangers". Active forums etc. The organisers of this group also produce and sell their own digitally restored DVDs of movie serials and radio serials.
My CV:  teaching and writing — for those who are interested.
